Trading Bravery for Dependence
Check out this video as Rachel Pieh Jones talks about the difference between bravery and dependence. At first glance, it may seem like bravery is the thing needed to be a parent, or in our case a mentor, but ultimately we ought to rely more heavily on God than on any courage we might be able to summon up.
May He increase your joy as you follow Him.
But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Fall Festival
~Voice of Hope is hosting its annual Fall Festival~
Here is an opportunity for your family and your mentee's family
to get together for a great time of fun and fellowship.
SHINE
Introducing the SHINE wall! This year we will be highlighting a young man and a young lady each week, who have demonstrated SHINE. The idea for the SHINE wall is taken from Matthew 5:16 that says "Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deed and praise your Father in heaven." So we are encouraging students to:
Scholastic Achievement: "Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding." Proverbs 3:13
Helpful to others: "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others" Philippians 2:3-4
Integrity: "Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes' and your 'No', 'No'." Matthew 5:37
Neighborly: "Love your neighbor as yourself" Leviticus 19:18
Enthusiastic Participation: "David...danced before the Lord with all his might." 2 Samuel 6:14
Each student selected will be awarded a certificate, and their picture will be placed on our SHINE wall in the hall at Mercy Street, as well as on our blog.
